Shahla Modir, M.D. completed residency in Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a 2 year sub-specialty fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Modir is double board certified. This is a rare qualification in the treatment of dual diagnosis. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Psychiatry AND Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Modir is a licensed buprenorphine provider and a dual diagnosis expert. Dr. Modir received an NIH grant to study the effects of acupuncture and motivational interviewing on methamphetamine withdrawal symptoms. She is trained in all of the evidence based psycho-social therapies to treat addiction such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. Furthermore, she is trained and has led groups in dialectical behavioral therapy.Dr. Modir is an Integrative Medicine expert. She is certified by UCLA-HMI to perform medical acupuncture and has completed a 2-year clinical Ayurvedic medicine specialist program. She was a Bravewell scholar and completed the Associate Fellowship at the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine, headed by the famous and well-respected expert Dr. Andrew Weil. She worked as a lecturer with Dr. Deepak Chopra and as an integrative medicine specialist at the Chopra Center. She wrote a chapter for the textbook, Integrative Cardiology, edited by Jack Vogel, M.D., on Ayurvedic approaches to cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Modir is the Medical Director at Season’s Recovery Center and Summit Malibu. She is also the chief psychiatrist for Soba Outpatient Treatment Center and an attending physician at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. She has worked at multiple residential facilities over the past 7 years and developed the first evidence based psycho-social treatment program with the leading experts from UCLA, Dr. Richard Rawson and Dr. Walter Ling. This blend of experience allows for a well trusted evaluation and treatment of very complicated patients.
